Smiths Heimann Biometrics GmbH is a company that concentrates on the development, manufacturing and marketing of high quality forensic livescanners for civil and police applications as well as smart document verification readers.

To date, more than 3600 livescanners from Smiths Heimann Biometrics are installed worldwide (as of March 2004). These devices for capturing finger and palm prints support users in Japan, Australia, the US and many other countries. As the FBI certifies each of our scanners used in criminal applications, highest quality images are guaranteed. Users in civil applications also benefit from this high level of quality.

Since the beginning of 2003, smart document verification readers enlarge our product portfolio. Being already used by various customers in civil applications, they are currently undergoing extensive field tests by several border control authorities.

Smiths Heimann Biometrics GmbH was spun off from JENOPTIK in 1992, founded as a new digital imaging company. Smiths Heimann Biometrics GmbH is headquartered in Jena, Germany and has branch offices in the USA and in the UK. Today, the company is a member of Smiths Heimann GmbH, Wiesbaden, Germany – the world’s market leader in X-ray security systems. Since December 2002, Smiths Heimann is part of the British Smiths Group plc and together with other detection businesses forms the Detection Division of Smiths Group.
