The PBA was founded in 1985 by John Tombs who was SAS trained and served in one of the first anti-terrorist teams formed to combat the threat against civil aviation in the early 1970’s.
Close Protection Training
The aim of the PBA is to train our students to not only pass the close protection training course but to also go far beyond - to produce, hopefully, a superior CPO. In this way the PBA’s reputation within the industry is upheld and we are not just another provider churning out the ‘run of the mill’.

Protection Training Certificate Type
The PBA offers the BTEC Level 3 CPO certificate.
This secured, you then apply for your SIA CPO Licence.
We are proud of an excellent pass rate and a free re-sit facility for as many times, should it be needed. So, in fact , with the Professional Bodyguard Association your really should not fail! Once your certificate is secured you then are qualified to apply for your SIA CPO Licence – your passport to employment which is recognised worldwide!
First Aid Certificate Requirements
Compulsory SIA first aid certification - Most training providers will require that a training course can only be embarked upon once a Security Industry Authority (SIA) recognised First Aid Certificate is held. However the PBA provide this training as part of our complete package.
We provide the FAW (First Aid at Work) H.S.E. (Health and Safety Executive) certificate.
Bodyguard Training
Once the close protection training Course has been completed, we can also offer other Specialised bodyguard taining courses to further your expertise and employability we have Advanced bodyguard training Courses and Surveillance Courses available for those that want to further their bodyguard training and knowledge in specific areas.
Security Industry Authority Licence
The Security Industry Authority Licence for the CPO is a government-required qualification for all close protection training operatives in order for them to work in the U.K. The Security Industry Authority licence is obtained by attendance to a CPO course by an SIA recognised training provider and the pass of the qualifying exam.
Once an Security Industry Authority Licence has been issued the holder may then pursue their career as a CPO. There and are many levels within the industry from little or low threat - to high risk operations. The Security Industry Authority licence that is compulsory within the U.K. is becoming increasingly recognised and sort after worldwide.
Firearms Training Courses
Although we can not run ‘ live’ firing instruction here in the U.K. due to legislation, we can recommend excellent establishments in Europe and U.S.A. who welcome PBA Students. Both providers are former PBA students themselves, proving our prodigy go far and wide and succeed at all levels of the industry
