Universal Electronic Security Solution At The Asklepios Hospital In Parchim (Germany)

LEGIC Identsystems Ltd - Contactless Smart Card Technology

A look at the universal electronic security system at the Asklepios Hospital in Germany

From front door to drugs cabinet

Mechanical keys are a thing of the past at the Asklepios hospital in Parchim. A universal electronic security solution using Häfele's Dialock locking system and based on LEGIC technology, covers every door from the main entrance to the pharmacy shelves.

Hospitals are extremely complex buildings when it comes to security plans. Firstly, the building accommodates a wide variety of people, such as patients, doctors, nursing and service staff, all of whom have totally individual access profiles - some of them for a very short period of time. And secondly, hospitals contain some extremely sensitive areas such as drugs cabinets and intensive care stations, where unauthorised access has to be prevented at all times.

A central component of the solutions developed for the Asklepios Clinic at Parchim is the use of a Dialock electronic locking and identification system to secure sensitive medical areas and the service rooms. In total the system incorporates 56 wall terminals, 309 door terminals, 27 central locking components and includes the 'Clinic' management software specially designed for hospital use. All the components are controlled and managed on a single electronic medium, a chip card with integrated LEGIC transponder, contactless and reliable.

The universal electronic locking solution at the Asklepios Clinic in Parchim also includes a whole series of special solutions specific to use in hospitals. For example, with their electronic keys, doctors attending an acute emergency case can override the control of the lifts - in emergencies this can save some possibly
crucial minutes.

Doors Secured By Motorised Locks
The main entrance doors are secured by motorised locks. Data exchange between lock and key medium is
contactless via a wall terminal (right).

Double Entry System
Access to the operating theatre suite is through a double entry system. An entryphone system with bell is
installed alongside the wall terminal.

Electronic Key Lifts
Example of a special solution specific to a hospital: Using their electronic key, doctors attending an emergency
have priority use of the lifts.

Doors with Sensor Strips
Even the steel and glass doors on each floor can - like the outer doors - be controlled contactless from the wall
terminals, and open automatically with a revolving door drive. Sensor strips ensure that the door stays open until the opening is clear.
