Products used to control the flow of vehicles have gone through huge evolution in recent years due to the range of new applications.
Today’s barriers are therefore able to do much more than simply open and close.
Responding to the burgeoning number of vehicles on the road and the subsequent demand for reliable and effective methods to control that extra traffic, Magnetic Autocontrol’s focus is on bespoke barrier solutions.
Designed with safety very much in mind, the company’s MIB 20/30/40 (Magnetic Intelligent Barriers), for instance, are ideal for extreme fields of application, such as car parks or toll stations on motorways, where high speeds, intelligent control units and maintenance-free barriers are a prerequisite, and allow for additional security functions, including low-impact force.
Integrated induction-loop detectors and multifunctional hardware and software provide a range of functions, such as control of traffic lights and vehicle counting, while subsequent adjustments can be executed easily by downloading a new parameter set, or by extension of a bus interface.
The MIB10 or MIB20 units are recommended for toll plazas, as well as for more basic applications. When extremely fast barriers are required, the MIB10 – Magnetic Autocontrol’s fastest and most up-to-date product, featuring opening and closing times of only 0.6 seconds – is particularly suitable. It is currently the only barrier in the world with a brushless DC motor.
The speed can be adjusted between 0.6 and 3 seconds – and independently for open and closing. Sensors detect boom position while self-learning software enables automatic adjustment for start up, automatic reverse on impact to the boom and the permanent optimization of barrier movements.
The MIB20, also suited for tolling, is the company’s best-selling barrier and offers opening and closing times of just 0.9 seconds.
Meanwhile, the MIB30 parking barrier fulfils the stringent requirements demanded in the parking sector, although it, too, is frequently used in toll plazas, where a speed of 1.4 seconds (with 3m boom) more than meets demands for high throughput. All MIB barriers are heavy duty, durable (guaranteed for five million cycles) and multifunctional.
Barriers For Traffic Control
A range of bespoke horizontal barriers for traffic control on motorways or tunnels, nail-belt barriers, and railway-crossing barriers with plastic booms are also available.
In all cases, much emphasis is placed on low-life-cycle costing, so component lifetime is key – the absence of wearing parts helps here.
Additionally, special boom-position sensors collect data that is then evaluated from the controller, in doing so allowing barrier movements to be continuously optimized. The prolonged durability and reliability of the barriers – and the benefit that hardly any spare parts are required for sustained periods – compensate for the initial investment.
Automatic Swing-Away Flange
Magnetic Autocontrol’s automatic swing-away flange, which as its name suggests swings away from the barrier from the housing in the event of a collision, is brand new to the range.
After removing the obstacle, the flange automatically returns the soft boom back into its original position, even when the barrier position is open. Swing-away flanges were previously only available on the MIB10 barrier, but can now be included with the MIB20, 30 and 40.
The lightweight carbon-fiber boom is covered with soft foam to which a reflecting foil is affixed. A stable barrier boom together with the swing-away flange prevents damage to vehicles and minimizes the risk of personal injury in the event of an accident.
