SubscribeSchools are finding it more and more difficult to allocate space which can be dedicated to the delivery of appropriate cross curriculum ICT when they are faced with having to use conventional furniture which has been deployed in historical classroom configurations.
Past thinking has promoted either front facing desk layouts or benching fixed around the perimeter of the classrooms.
These configurations are very space hungry and as such many classrooms cannot be used to deliver ICT for average class sizes which present room time tabling problems.
To overcome this basic space problem we have introduced the LapSafe® StarDesk™ range to our product portfolio. This range of intelligent furniture supports both PC and laptop hardware deployments and on average ONLY takes up some 60% of the space that would have been historically required to deliver the same solution.
This incredible saving in space is possible due the clever use of independent horizontal work surfaces which interact to minimise the foot print of the StarDesk™ without compromising user work space.
Not only is the StarDesk™ range extremely efficient in maximising available space the units are mobile which gives the user total flexibility as to where they deployment their ICT hardware.
Additionally the height of the StarDesk™ is adjustable to meet the needs of the different student age groups.
The StarDesk™ range comes in two basic configurations:
- The StarDesk™ P which is designed to support PC systems with flat screen monitors
- The StarDesk™ L which is designed to support laptop computers.
Either configuration simply needs a 13 amp 240 volt power supply and a single Cat5 cable connection, to the schools network, to provide the same facility that would have historically required many more such connections to provide the same teaching solution. An instant cost saving!
The StarDesk™ P is currently available either for 3 students (StarDesk™ P3) or 6 students (StarDesk™ P6) and as previously explained the unit supports PC systems with flat screen monitors on adjustable brackets.
The StarDesk™ L was launched at BETT 2007 and is initially for 6 students (StarDesk™ L6) with an 8 student (StarDesk™ L8) version being available very soon after.
The StarDesk™ L has been designed to address the issues of laptop security, connectivity and battery life by its innovative user friendly design and use of proven LapSafe® Technology. As such each laptop will be connected to a bespoke power system which will mean no more dead batteries, so lessons can be more effectively planned. Laptops can remain on charge throughout the day, offering schools the opportunity to re-use old laptops, even if they no longer hold their charge. As a result capital IT expenditure is given a longer life whilst reducing the environmental impact of disposing of old laptops and batteries.
