Security Foiling Limited is a specialist in providing Document Security Solutions.
Over the last 20 years they have encountered many types of document fraud and counterfeiting. Most of their document security solutions fall into two main categories: Point of Issue Security applications or Centralised Security Solutions.
Point of Issue Security
Where it is possible to implement, the point of issue application system offers the best security. The point of document issue is the very point at which the item is given value or validity as the genuine item.
Principal advantages:
- It is simpler to trace and prevent internal corruption as you have complete control over the issue of genuine articles.
- Genuine goods or documents are not distributed or left in stock.
- If counterfeit documents or products are identified it is possible to respond quickly with a new OVD design.
- Point of Issue gives the document issuing authority complete control.
Common Applications for Point of Issue Security:
Cheques: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration – payee name, amounts etc.) or holograms to authenticate the document
Bank Drafts: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration - payee name, amounts etc.) or holograms to authenticate the document
ID Cards: Using holograms to authenticate the card
Customs documents: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration – customs value, consignee name) or holograms to authenticate the document
Valuation certificates: (for tax payable) Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration - amounts) or holograms to authenticate the document
Stamp duty: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration – amounts, names, document ID etc.) or holograms to authenticate the document
Cash receipts: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration – amounts, name etc.) or holograms to authenticate the document
Tickets: Using holograms to authenticate the document, mainly to protect against duplication
Centralised Security Solutions
Most large document security solutions will adopt printing and OVD application techniques that are centralised. However there are some smaller operations (plastic card bureaus) where a centralised approach may suit the document owner (such as credit card issuing):
Advantages:
- Bulk quantities are processed quickly
- Normally produced using one piece of equipment or one production site
Disadvantages:
- Security can be compromised by bulk holding of genuine articles and materials
- Security can be compromised in the distribution channel
- Large quantities of products or documents in distribution when a counterfeit takes place - slow reaction time to dealing with counterfeit threat
- Common Applications for Centralised Security Solutions
University Certificates: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration – name, qualifications etc.) or holograms to authenticate the document.
Credit card: Using holograms to authenticate the document
Licences: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration –name, document ID number etc.) or holograms to authenticate the document
Birth and Death Certificates: Using Datafoil (protection of variable data against alteration – name, dates etc.) or holograms to authenticate the document
Hologram Application Equipment
The MicroPOISE hologram application machines are now used in more than sixty countries to process documents in both Point of Issue and Centralised Security Solutions.
Minimal capital outlay and fast return on investment with the ability to process single or multiple documents allows the MicroPOISE to be the preferred choice for many document issuers, plastic card bureaus and printers. Protecting valuable documents against alteration and duplication with MicroPOISE is now cost effective for document issuers but also allows plastic card bureaus and printers to offer ‘added value’ to their customers.
