Blast protection from the effects of an explosion is becoming more important due to the increased threat of random terrorist violence. Blast mitigation with AIGIS is the practice of making a blast less severe and is very much the selection of resistant materials, each having its own unique properties and application, in the attenuation and absorption of blast related effects.
AIGIS specialises in the provision of blast protection solutions, including Isolation Units for Airports, Railways, Mailrooms, Malls, and Reception Areas.
Why Blast Mitigation?
From January 1968 until July 2006, there have been a total of 28,741 terrorist incidents consisting of armed attack, arson, assassination, barricade or hostage situations, hijacking and kidnapping. Out of these there have been 16,454 incidents or 17% using bombs, causing 78,196 people to be injured and killing 21,218 or world-wide from terrorist incidents 79% of all injuries and 52% of all deaths.

Solution: AIGIS's Isolation Units
Designed in consultation with EOD, IEDD and Airports, and used by customers worldwide, AIGIS Isolation Units are designed to contain suspect devices and safely remove them from the premises to a location where they can be investigated further.
Isolation Units enable Businesses to act immediately, reducing the need to carry out standard operating procedures such as ICE, Isolate, Cordon and Evacuate, thus enabling Businesses to continue operating rather than face costly, disruptive and dangerous evacuations.
Should the suspect device explode inside the Isolation Unit, the AIGIS TABREshield system would mitigate blast and fragmentation to sustainable levels, using its blast absorption and attenuation properties. Isolation Units reduce the lethal effects of an explosion to below the threshold for hearing damage, this being the first organ to suffer from the excess pressure (see graph here against), thus reducing the hazard to people and building structure.
Recently, a major U.S. airport was closed for two hours costing an estimated 3.5 million dollars, due to the evacuation of passengers, airport staff and aircrew, time required to deal with the suspect device, missed flights by passengers, out of hours aircrew and their replacement and the diversion of flights and cancellation of others. AIGIS Isolation Units provide a cost effective solution to the explosion threats Businesses face daily, where the capital cost can be recovered by saving one stoppage of business.
